"Aging in Place" or "Universal Design"

The newest trend in residential remodeling is to plan and design for safety, comfort, and access for people of all ages and abilities... the buzz phrase is “Aging In Place” or “Universal Design.” AARP reported that 83 percent of Americans 45-plus want to age-in-place.  “We know that Americans over age 60 will number almost 88 million by the year 2030,” says Liza Bowles, NAHB Research Center president. Any person – large or small, young or old, able-bodied or not, should be able to easily enter and leave any house, maneuver in and out of the major rooms, use the bathroom, and get something to eat from the kitchen.
