Enhance Parents' Lives with In-Law Apartment

Sometimes due to the aging of our family members, we often have to create a new place for them to call home. Larry and Patty Doebler of Ithaca, NY, did just that. When Patty's parents, Orville and Helen Darling, came to live with them, the Doeblers had the inspiration of adding an "in-law apartment" onto their existing home. Patty and Larry met with Jeff Fredrickson numerous times. After several meetings and design renditions, Larry was the one to come up with the "final" idea in Applebee's restaurant where he drew his concepts on a napkin. The Doeblers selected beautiful materials throughout that enhanced their parents' lives.

The new apartment blends with the main house through an absolutely beautiful solarium. The focal point in the solarium is a spectacular cupola complimented with ambiance lighting. (Patty saw this design in a home magazine and the idea was immediately incorporated into their project.) The in-law apartment includes a spacious living area complete with a cozy recessed gas fireplace. Trim work around the fireplace was meticulously crafted by Geoff Doebler. The beautifully tiled shower includes a custom-made seat that makes it easy for anyone to use. Throughout the apartment special attention was given for effortless maneuvering from room to room.

The relationship Crown's crews had with both the Doeblers and Darlings was exceptional."They made us feel right at home, as if part of the family," said Crown's specialty craftsmen.

Patty and Larry were passing their own accolades to Crown's construction crew as well. They became part of our family while they were here. No improvement needed! I expected the best and received the best."

Larry and Patty recently hosted an Open House with numerous friends and Crown team members. We were blessed with many wonderful compliments on their project. Our desire is that Larry and Patty, along with Orville and Helen, enjoy their new surroundings for many, many years to come. God Bless.
